[Fantasy/Gore] Defenders of the Forgotten Kingdom
#21
I followed the trail for awhile until it comes to an end. I curse at myself and look around. 'He can't be to far away. There has to be another trail or something here.' I say to myself before noticing a more shimmering from within the nearby forest. Once getting closer to the shimmer, I realized it was more coins. As I was processing this, my ears twitch a bit as I heard someone say, 'Aldwin.' I look around and saw a group of figures, about five, a good distance away. Instinctively, I hid and listened in. Whether or not this will be good, I'm sure it'll be necessary information for the Kingdom.

As Elias began to get up, he listens to the conversation. He jumps as two more beings come from hidden trees. One looked like either a human or elf, and another looked inhuman from his angle. As he was about to leave, he heard someone look for the city of 'Aldwin.' "Aldwin? Are they there for the reward th-" he abruptly stops as he realizes he was talking out loud. His heart begins to race as he isn't sure to either stay or run away with this situation.

Ateren looked at the sudden company. "I find it really odd that all of you came to this 'exact' spot at this 'exact' time so... excuse me for being suspicious." he said sincerely. Ateren then heard another voice that didn't belong to the newcomers. Valldrake probably didn't hear but his cat ears heard it well enough. "And yet there's more..." It's like some Milly Bayes (hue) type deal on a special order for eavesdroppers. Buy one get 4 free! Regardless, Valldrake holds his book closer and surveys the area before speaking after him. "For a more optimistic outcome. It could be possible we were brought together by an unknown force for a greater good." Ateren perked a bit and gave a light nod. He would definitely like some early followers in his line of work.

My eyes widened as I noticed others start showing up before the Elf moved forward. There were more!? I squeezed my staff uneasily as I noticed the other was a dragon, though taller than the one next to the semi-human. I wouldn't be able to do much harm to them... The boy Elf gave me this look, as though trying to instil fear in me or something, Needless to say, it didn't work in the slightest. He wore no protective armour to my powers, so he was the farthest thing from a threat to me.

The High Elf girl clung to the semi-human as the others started showing up. She was visibly shaking, and obviously scared. She wouldn't speak anymore. I remained still as the semi-human began talking to them, only to hear another voice in the distance. How many were here? I remained as still as I could. There was no way I was going to try to take on two dragonborn-- potentially three-- along with the others. It would be too much to chew... I remained back and waited for things to unravel.

'some unknown force'  Aura chewed on that thought for a while. She never did believe in a higher power yet there was some truth in his words. It was way too much of a considence for all these people to show up, all of whom have no connection to each other. She lets out a small huff and crosses her arms "You may be right. As much as I hate to believe in that sort of thing. Someone pulled a lot of strings to get all of us here in one place. So tell me brother, what purpose do we serve if that is why we are here?"

"I don't have any more reason to suspect most of you, I'm just here to visit Aldwin. Besides, we don't have any reason to trust each other, I should be on my way" Ferin said, it was the emphasis on the word most clearly as if to remind the watcher above to avoid considering malicious intents. He doesn't have a good reason to stay here outside of silly superstition, but if there's any chance of trouble then he'd rather not leave them to face it alone, old habits die hard it seems
As the human cat points out, he definitely hears something nearby, sounded like two other people and he rolls his eyes in irritation. What a drag, this person from above could attack at any moment, and now more are coming, related or unrelated to the stalker

My nose twitches a bit at the thought of a higher power. Could it be that it was destined for this group to perhaps be the Defenders? Nonsense, not with that thief around. I begin to ponder if I should reveal myself or not. With the large group, I knew I would be destroyed in an instant if I made any of the wrong move. 'I can't risk the kingdom for my safety. These could be the heroes of our Kingdom.' I say to myself. Hoping I wouldn't regret it, I stepped a bit closer. "I think I could help you find Aldwin, travelers. Perhaps it was destined, for I was sent on a mission to find strong defenders to protect the Kingdom." I give a reassuring smile in hopes that it would allow them them to trust me. I began to notice how it was mostly made up of elves and dragons. I began to slowly regret revealing myself.

As Elias heard Joseph, he jumped a bit. Did he really follow all this way for a lousy bag of coins?! He turns towards him and listens in onto the defenders part. While Elias wasn't much of a team player, he was, however, into the rewards and much, much more. He ponders a bit and decides that he would go with majority, for whatever it would be. He crosses his arms and raises an eyebrow at Joseph. "Oh really? Tell me, is that all we'll get if we defend this stupid kingdom of yours? Just gold? And how do we know you're not just some traitor who'll kill us after we let our guard down?" Elias grins a stupid smile at Joseph, thinking that he placed Joseph in a bad situation.

Ateren throws up his hands. "What are the ODDS? Yeah, okay. Higher power my hide, somethings odd about this entire thing. That is for sure." He said with a light chuckle. Valldrake eyed everyone individually. "I'm with her on this one. All we have is a notion and a prayer to follow you. You could lead us to a camp of thieves to be bagged, gagged, and tied up." He said, pointing to Elias. At the mention of that, Ateren brings the high elf looking girl closer protectively.

The High Elf clung herself to "kitty" as he held her closer. These two... were more than friends. My eye twitched as my pupils narrowed as my irises glowed. My brow formed a deep furrow as those horrible memories kept pushing their way back into my head. I gritted my teeth as the orb at the end of my staff began glowing a faint violet hue, causing the sky to begin filling with dark clouds and blotting out the light. The rays peaking through the canopy grew narrower as the bright of day began slowly fading around them. I took in a slow, deep breath as the mess of my mind came to a singular thought.

Aeria.

Thunder clapped as lightning pierced its way down, hitting the ground near the edge of the forest. The impact caused a loud boom as fragments of ground bounced up and away from the impact. No piece was larger than four times the size of a throwing rock, which only travelled about two metres at farthest. The impact, though, left a small black hole in the ground with red hot embers within. The violet flash of the lightning strike illuminated the area, even revealing where I was for a short moment with brilliant violet light.

The thunder progressed as a storm began brewing. A gentle trickle of rain could be heard starting up just outside the woodland border as a few drops find their way through the canopy. As a drop hit the High Elf, she squeaked and clung tighter. The air around began growing colder as this happened, which resulted in her burying her face in the human's chest. My glare did not cease as this happened. I had come to the conclusion that those two were my enemy.

As the thunder hit the ground Aura became worried. "May I suggest we find shelter before we unfortunately get hit by unexpected lighting?" She thought for a minute. "If you want, or we could go our separate ways."

Ferin laughs a little bit too with the human cat's comment
"He's right. This is really too much of a coincidence, one of you could be pulling my strings, our strings."
While he continues to grin, Aura's warning comes before a bolt of lightning strikes at Ferin, attracted to the metal studs embedded on his coat, blasting him backwards as he lands on his back, appearing incapacitated. He wasn't expecting a shocker when he picked out his wardrobe today
